Here’s my ultimate guide to gluten-free Christmas desserts guide in UK supermarkets for 2023, including 120+ desserts down free from aisles and beyond this Christmas. They’re on shelves right now, Coeliac-friendly and wheat-free.
The ultimate gluten-free Christmas desserts guide 2023 – because not even gluten or a ‘may contain’ gluten warning should get in the way of dessert! Here’s everything I’ve found across Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Lidl and more. And if nothing here takes your fancy, then you can always make your own gluten-free Christmas dessert instead!
The ultimate gluten-free Christmas desserts guide 2023
Since this is a guide that shows specific dessert products across a range of different supermarkets, that’s exactly how I’ve decided to divide them up. Here’s a few important notes on gluten-free dessert shopping before we get started:
- Though I’ve checked all of the products myself, please ensure you check the ingredients labels on everything before you buy them. To be gluten-free, they shouldn’t have any gluten-containing ingredients or ‘may contain’ warnings for gluten, wheat etc.
- Some products that were gluten-free last year aren’t gluten-free this year, so don’t just blindly buy the same as last year!
- Double check back with this list to confirm you’ve got the right product from the right supermarket. With so many of these products spread across so many supermarkets, it can be easy to forget which specific supermarket does what and end up buying the wrong thing. So be sure to check the ingredients first, or check back with this list first!
Using the contents list below, you can jump to particular supermarkets if you’re looking for somewhere specific, or feel free to just scroll down to see everything:

Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Tesco
As you might remember from when I did posts like this in the past, this guide will feature both dedicated free from desserts as well as ‘accidentally’ gluten-free products which you’d never know were gluten-free unless somebody told you… or you diligently checked the ingredients list on every product in the supermarket.
Fortunately, I’m showing you exactly which products are gluten-free so you don’t have to read the equivalent of a novel on the back of supermarket products. Leave that part to me 😂
But of course, just like my gluten-free Christmas supermarket desserts post in previous years, this means a lot of the ‘accidentally’ gluten-free desserts will be different roulades or other meringue-based desserts – which is exactly the case at Tesco!
However, though most of the ‘accidentally’ gluten-free Christmas desserts you’ll find will be meringue-based, don’t assume that every roulade etc. is gluten-free. Some can be stabilised with wheat starch, so take a close note of the ones I recommend and then double check the ingredients lists/may contain warnings to ensure you have the correct product.
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Asda
When I popped into Asda there wasn’t nearly as much as you’ll find in Tesco, with the ever familiar frozen roulades and meringue stack from last year making another reappearance.
However, note thee chocolate and honeycomb avalanche dessert as there’s very few non-meringue options to get excited about this year.
I’ll most definitely be popping back to Asda to check for more products as it won’t be until super close to Christmas that fresh (not frozen) desserts will start appearing. So make sure you check back on this post occasionally for updates!
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s has a decent variety down their freezer aisle thanks to the combination of the usual ‘accidentally’ gluten-free products and free from desserts too.
Kirsty’s apple pie slices are a reliable, easily portable dessert and along with the ‘We Love Cake’ tarts and chocolate pud, there’s even some dairy-free options on offer here.
Apart from the usual roulades, take note of chocolate and salted caramel bar which features layers of chocolate mousse, filled with salted caramel sauce, chocolate shavings and topped with a chocolate ganache. It’s something a little bit different for once!
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Marks and Spencer
It’s yet another meringue-based explosion over at M&S when it comes to gluten-free Christmas desserts but the hazelnut and caramel S’mores pavlova-style dessert is definitely one to note. You won’t find anything like that anywhere else!
Sadly, there’s nothing suitable for a dairy-free diet unless you like Christmas pudding or Yule log!
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Aldi
Now it’s time to head over to Aldi’s freezer section where their double chocolate semifreddo igloo undoubtedly steals the show.
As I said in my main Aldi post, it’s one of the few ‘accidentally’ gluten-free desserts that would actually make a cute, fun centrepiece that’s a little different – so make sure you make the most of that!
I have to say though, the passion fruit, raspberry and white chocolate pavlova stack does sound pretty good too…
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Lidl
Thanks to Lidl’s range of different ice cream desserts, there’s actually a few decent options here when it comes to gluten-free dessert options with non-plain or boring flavours. Plus as some of them are mini, they’d make a easy, no-brainer, portable desserts if you’re having to take a suitable dessert to someone else’s house this Christmas.
However, there’s nothing especially stand out here, so I wouldn’t advise you to rush to Lidl for gluten-free Christmas desserts especially, and certainly don’t bother if you’re dairy-free!
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Morrison’s
The selection over at Morrison’s isn’t half bad with all-year-round free from products bolstering variety here.
With everything from Kirsty’s lemon cheesecake (dairy-free too), black forest brownie dessert, the infamous Daim tart and free from profiteroles, it’s certainly possible to find something you’ll enjoy.
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: Waitrose
Waitrose certainly isn’t the best supermarket for gluten-free Christmas desserts with most of these products being their from their all-year-round range. We don’t even have a lot of meringue-based desserts here either!
But still, it’s plenty more than you’ll find than the last supermarket on this list as you’ll see shortly…
Gluten-free Christmas Desserts 2023: The Co-op
Whilst the Co-op has been pretty good for gluten-free desserts during the festive season in the past (they used to stock gluten-free and dairy-free salted caramel profiteroles from my memory), in 2023 there’s barely anything here that’d make you rush to the Co-op especially.
The one lone roulade I could find was only accompanied by their all-year-round Kirsty’s desserts (and thankfully they were!), making just four options in total.
SMALL UPDATE – Co-op are stocking their gluten-free salted caramel profiteroles again! I’ve included the old photo I had from the past here as I haven’t had a chance to pop out to find them yet (and they’re not listed online at the time of writing) but they now have purple packaging that clearly states gluten-free and milk-free on the front.
Oh and hit the button below to grab a copy of my new book ‘Gluten-free Christmas’ which is currently £11 for who knows how long!
