The ultimate gluten-free party food guide 2023! Here’s all the party food down free from aisles and beyond this Christmas across UK supermarkets. And they’re on shelves right now, Coeliac-friendly and wheat-free.
The ultimate gluten-free party food guide 2023 – because not even gluten or a ‘may contain’ gluten warning should get between anyone’s love of party food! Here’s everything I’ve found across Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Lidl and more. Don’t forget to save this post and keep checking back for updates…
The ultimate gluten-free party food guide 2023
Since this is a guide that shows specific party food products across a range of different supermarkets, that’s exactly how I’ve decided to divide them up. Here’s a few important notes on gluten-free party food shopping before we get started:
- Though I’ve checked all of the products myself, please ensure you check the ingredients labels on everything before you buy them. To be gluten-free, they shouldn’t have any gluten-containing ingredients or ‘may contain’ warnings for gluten, wheat etc.
- Some products that were gluten-free last year aren’t gluten-free this year, so don’t just blindly buy the same as last year! These altered products often have allergy updates on their packaging, so be sure to check for that and the ingredients list before re-buying any product you enjoyed last Christmas – these products of course haven’t been included in this list. This applies to some of last year’s products, for example, from Waitrose (breaded cheeses for example), Co-Op (reduced their gluten-free festive range over the last few years yet still stock gluten-containing versions of the exact same old products) and a lot of other supermarkets in general in terms of mozzarella sticks etc.
- Double check back with this list to confirm you’ve got the right product from the right supermarket. With so many of these products spread across so many supermarkets, it can be easy to forget which specific supermarket does gluten-free arancini, for example, and end up buying the wrong one. So be sure to check the ingredients first, or check back with this list first!
Using the contents list below, you can jump to particular supermarkets if you’re looking for somewhere specific, or feel free to just scroll down to see everything:
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Tesco
Though Tesco has a few actually awesome options (the bhajis, vegan no-prawn tempura and jalapeno cheese poppers), it’s hard not to feel like we’ve had more gluten-free party food options here in previous years.
But never fear because, with a little shopping around, you’ll most definitely be able to put on an epic gluten-free party food spread by choosing your favourite products from each supermarket. Just keep the faith and keep scrolling to find out!
Don’t forget your clubcard here in Tesco as a lot of these are either on 2 for £6 or have a lower clubcard price.
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Asda
There’s even less over at Asda (compared to Tesco) right now and most of what’s actually here seems to be in the free from freezer section.
This would leave me to speculate that the fresh party food is still to come (especially since they will have use-by dates well before Christmas) so keep checking back here for any future updates.
Though gluten-free mozzarella sticks seemed to be plentiful at all supermarkets in previous years, it doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. So note the free from, frozen mozzarella sticks here and the nacho bean bites especially!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Sainsbury’s
You won’t go hungry over at Sainsbury’s and here’s what I found that’d be more than suitable for any gluten-free Christmas party food spread.
And without a doubt, Sainsbury’s is the place to be for gluten-free cocktail sausages or pigs in blankets!
Note the white rabbit pizzas too which can easily be quickly sliced up and served to a crowd – the same goes for their free from mini quiche too.
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Marks and Spencer
Phew! Though M&S doesn’t have tons of festive party food options like I remember posting across previous years, their free from products fill in a lot of gaps here.
Take their gluten-free vegetable samosas, pakoras, dim sum, spring rolls, sausage rolls, garlic and cheese flatbread, for example.
I’d be more than happy to have all of the above from M&S and not much else! So M&S is definitely a win unless other supermarkets come out with more suitable products closer to Christmas – which I’ll add here if I find them!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Aldi
Don’t expect to find much in Aldi (or Lidl) in terms of gluten-free party food – you’ll most definitely have to shop elsewhere to put on a party food spread of your dreams.
But if you’re popping in, you might want to pick up one of the below as they’ll no doubt be more affordable than other supermarkets. After all, if you’re going to buy multiple packs of pigs in blankets like I will, then that saving will soon add up!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Lidl
Lidl is a tad better than Aldi when it comes to gluten-free party food but again, you’re not going to be able to create a proper gluten-free party food spread just using the below products.
However, I will gladly take the potato skins and satay anyday!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Morrison’s
Whilst Morrison’s hasn’t got the biggest selection of gluten-free party food, they do have pretty much everything you’d need to impress me!
The combination of all of these products alone would make an amazing gluten-free party food spread, with great variety and choice, but the Asian-style selection box has to be noted especially.
We used to have so many more products like this in previous years (from Co-Op especially) and Morrison’s is the only place that still stocks a product like this. So if you can get to Morrison’s, make sure you hunt that one down!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Waitrose
Waitrose has a brilliant selection of gluten-free party food already, including something that used to be a little more common during the festive party food season: gluten-free arancini!
Don’t forget to check the free from frozen section for the Schar calzones too – they’re only stocked in a few places!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: Iceland
I hope you like cheese. That’s all I’ll say!
Of course, I will say a little more actually. This selection is actually great, though because almost every product revolves around cheese, you’ll most definitely have to shop around to ensure your gluten-free party food spread has better variety.
But to have all of these suitable products in Iceland is something I would have never expected, so please make the most of it!
Gluten-free Party Food 2023: The Co-op
I absolutely had to include the Co-op in this guide, despite only being able to find one suitable gluten-free party food product.
Why? Not only because the one product I found was pretty awesome and I haven’t seen it anywhere else, but just to highlight how little there is for us here!
And that’s not to be mean to Co-op (where I worked for many years!), it’s because Co-op used to stock a bunch of actually amazing gluten-free Christmas party food products up until recently. See this old post to remind you or if you have no idea what I mean!
So this is just a long way of explaining that and also saying: don’t go to Co-op for gluten-free party food this year!
