Welcome to My IBS Diary Week 9! As I mentioned last week, lots of changes are coming up for me. PLUS I want to know your TOP TIPS for Coping with IBS! Make sure you subscribe to me (for free!) to be notified of more IBS & Gluten Free Videos every week!
So this week was spent partially down south in London and partially up north in Manchester. It has been exciting and contemplative all in one. To think that I haven’t got much time left in the lovely Manchester is pretty sad. I won’t miss the weather, but I will miss everything else!
Travelling a lot this week & also next week, is currently meaning lots of eating on the go, hotels & no where to cook for myself. Cooking for myself is definitely something that makes me feel more in control of my IBS. I know exactly what is in my food. I know exactly how it is cooked, I know the specific details to ensure my stomach has a happy day.
I made sure whilst on the go I knew of places I could eat at. Obviously, London is full of great places to enjoy gluten free food. However, when you throw IBS into the mix, things can get a little trickier! There are so many other foods I need to avoid, with onions, salads & a high proportion of fibrous veggies and sugary fruit out, I really have to be on my toes that I don’t fall into any IBS attack traps!
On the go I opted to bring along some of my own gluten free bread from home & often just grabbed a sandwich filler so I could make my own. (I didn’t have time to pop over to a Planet Organic/Whole Foods or my favourite foodie hot spots in London – Beyond Bread, Cookies & Scream etc. I also grabbed some Itsu Sushi when I got the chance, I love grabbing sushi on the go in London.
Once I am all sorted in London, and things are a lot less hectic I will be able to start planning a little bit more. My biggest piece of advice for on the go eating with IBS is to be prepared. Be over prepared!! Who cares if you have too much with you. Just don’t leave anything to chance; the last thing you want is to be stuck with nothing suitable to eat. An empty stomach is not good for IBS, regular meals really is key.
I have to say I missed one day of Symprove when I was in London this week which disappointed me! Any tips for what to do when you’re in hotels with Symprove without a fridge? I am going to be up in London again this week coming up! Fortunately, I think Symprove has really been helping me. I went out for a ‘Team Lunch’ last week and ended up having a huge plate of chicken and chips for lunch, something I would NEVER have been able to manage in the past. I felt like I digested it a lot quicker than I would have in the past and was still able to continue working all afternoon without discomfort! I also had quite a few little snacky items whilst in London (nuts… which usually give me a lot of grief) without too many problems.
I would love to know how you cope with your IBS when you are constantly on the go. When you are on trains, staying in hotels & basically living a completely different life to your usual routine! Basically give me YOUR TOP TIPS FOR COPING WITH IBS!
Please feel free to let me know how your IBS is treating you this week. If you have any questions or just want a good old chat you can leave a comment below, or on Facebook/Twitter.
