Gluten Free Bagels anyone? I found just the place and it is right on my doorstep in Manchester… what a treat!
I work in Sale, a town in Cheshire just outside of Manchester. It’s a nice place and I have always enjoyed lunchtime strolls down the canal. It’s so peaceful and I almost feel like I’m in the country when really I’m a 10 minute drive from the city! I generally bring my lunch in from home each day. I usually make myself a gluten free roll filled with whatever I fancy. From Prawn Mayo to Chicken Tikka I love a bit of variety! However sometimes it’s nice not to have to rush around in the mornings and instead have lunch made for me! There are a few places I have ventured to for lunch in the area but there has always been this one place I have wanted to go and not been able to… that was until earlier this week! Psst… they do Gluten Free Bagels!
I was having food cravings sitting in the office hearing everyone chatting about… Bread Station, so I gave them a tweet:
I was so excited by this that I wanted to be the first to indulge in some Gluten Free bagels so I ventured down to Bread Station on Wednesday Lunchtime.
Bread Station is situated on the Bridge above the Sale Metrolink Station so it is really easy to get to from anywhere in the Manchester area on the tram.
I felt incredibly welcome when I popped my head in the door. It’s got loads of personality that comes from its American local coffee shop interior and it’s friendly, helpful staff. The menu is also insanely good. For those who can eat gluten you have full reign of delicious buttermilk pancakes & a huge variety of different flavoured bagels. But the Gluten Free folk now get an AWESOME deal too. Gluten Free Bagels (White and Seeded) are on offer with a full menu of delicious fillings that make me weak at the knees thinking about them. They also do hot sweet potato jackets which is actually quite a rarity in eateries. I always find that puzzling when sweet potato is such a popular food in the UK these days.
I actually just stood staring at the extensive menu for a good 10 minutes at least. I just couldn’t decide what to go for. Like seriously, how could anyone decide between these?! Not only do they all have great names, they all sound fairly orgasmic & for such a good price!
In the end I decided that I needn’t be indecisive, this place is 2 minutes from where I work and I can go every single week day if I want! I opted for an American Classic Bagel in the end… The Yankee.
“American Pastrami with a Pickle, Mayo” & of course I opted for the melted cheese as well!
It was a delicious choice. You wouldn’t have known the bagel was gluten free, I really think anyone could enjoy the gluten free variety they provide! It was warm and the melted cheese oozed flavour and America! I love pastrami so the layers of it within this bagel were perfect. It totally reminded me of the Gluten Free Pastrami Sandwich I had when I was in New York a few years ago at Blooms Deli. The pickle finished the bagel off.. every meal should come with pickles… I am a huge fan. I had it to takeaway as I didn’t have too long left of my lunch break. My bagel was wrapped up for me and I ate it on the go. Next time I go I would love to sit in as the atmosphere is just right – there really is a feel good vibe to the whole place.
If you are looking for a new place for lunch. Somewhere that the Gluten Free eater and the non Gluten Free eater can enjoy side by side, then this is for you! It really is a little treasure that I am so grateful for. I can’t wait till my next visit, it definitely won’t be long! I never thought a place called ‘Bread Station’ would ever be somewhere I can eat! Well I definitely can here & I frickin love it! Gluten Free Bagels for life!
Let me know if you venture down to the Bread Station sometime, it really is worth the trip. & let me know if there are any other little cafes around the North West that you would recommend!
