Cloud 9 Brighton is a MUST visit for all those living Gluten Free! The Gluten Free cake choice is great… Please try a Gluten Free Cheesecake Brownie!!
So over the course of 2014 I have visited Brighton on numerous occasions for job interviews, recruitment fairs and as press at The Great Escape Festival. Although each visit has been very different in terms of activities, one thing has always remained the same; I always end up on Cloud 9… in Cloud 9!
Cloud 9 is a mouth-watering cake and ice cream shop/café where not being able to eat gluten or dairy doesn’t mean you miss out. They now have two shops in Brighton, one in The Lanes and one across in Kensington Gardens. Having visited both, I must say… I love both! (For Ice cream and sorbet head to the shop in The Lanes –amazing selection, you won’t regret it!)
Cloud 9 is a cake shop for everyone; there is a true mix of cakes here. Not everything is gluten free and not everything is dairy free or vegan but there is certainly a huge amount of choice for everyone. Just check out their website or get down to the store to look at the selection they have.
Not only are their cakes and ice cream for you to buy every single day of the week but you can also order large personalised cakes and wedding cakes. This is something that I did fairly recently. I ordered an amazing rainbow cake to be delivered to a company I had visited whilst I was at Glastonbury. You’ve got to admit, it looks pretty epic!
Further still you can have parties at Cloud 9 from Hen Dos to Children’s Birthdays or even Ice Cream Lessons where you can create your own unique flavours – this is definitely something I would love to do in the future! Without even talking about how delicious the gluten free and dairy free/vegan cakes are I think I have sold it to you already… right?
Well let’s get straight onto a couple of the gluten free delicious bakes I have tried here in the past…
My oh my, this is gluten free. Seriously its better than anything I have ever tasted with gluten in it, let alone without! I am certainly not someone who opts for gluten free brownies ever, I am not a massive chocolate fan and brownies are well… boring?! But this is just on another level of amazing. The cheesecake top was thick, rich and creamy, very American style. The chocolate base was really chocolaty, which usually wouldn’t have massive appeal to me but it was really moist and complimented the cheesecake top so well. Since the day I bought my first one I have gone back numerous times and had more.
I also have another reviewer for the cheesecake brownie… Stupidly a couple of months ago I didn’t shut the fridge properly and my 12 year old Jack Russell, Molly sneaked in and gobbled down an entire cheesecake brownie. Needless to say I was not impressed! But she loved it and was licking her lips for hours, if that isn’t a good review, I don’t know what is!
Now it was only on Monday that I wandered past Cloud 9 on my way back to the train station when I noticed a sign poking out of a magnificent looking baked delight. The sign read “I’m Special & Gluten Free”. Basically I read that sign as, “Buy me, Eat me”, so I did what I was told and bought a bit slice to take home!
It was hard to resist gobbling down the entire slice on the train but I made it and it was definitely worth the wait. The sponge was delicious and moist with large chocolate chunks scattered within. I am a fan of chocolate chip cakes where the sponge is vanilla with chocolate chips dotted throughout. It means it has just the right level of chocolate for me. The cake was sandwiched together, topped and iced completely with the tastiest icing ever. It had an almost marbled vanilla and chocolate look about it, somewhat similar to the cheesecake brownie top look. The icing definitely made the whole cake it was almost like cheesecake icing to me! If anyone could transport me another slice within the next five minutes I would be very grateful.
If I lived closer to Brighton I would definitely order a whole cake like that from them whenever a good enough occasion came up… eg. I fancy some cake. You really wouldn’t have a clue it was gluten free, Cloud 9 really have found the perfect way to make delicious gluten free delights.
Of course they have other gluten free cakes available and the range varies regularly as everything is made fresh. Gluten free cupcakes seem to regularly be available and I have often seen a very inviting looking chocolate orange cake, which I have yet to try, but will soon!
Now as I mentioned Cloud 9 also are partial to pleasing those with dairy and lactose intolerances and vegans by creating a variety of vegan cakes and bakes too. Unfortunately so far all the vegan cakes have had gluten in them so I haven’t been able to try them… just drool over them. However, Mark of course can eat gluten but can’t take dairy so he happily obliges on every occasion to be chief taster!
If you want to check out Mark’s opinions on the dairy free/lactose free/vegan delights of Cloud 9 then click here. You will not be disappointed… so please give it a read ?
In the mean time, I hope you have enjoyed what I have to say on Cloud 9 and I hope you get the chance to visit soon!
