My seventh cookbook ‘Budget Gluten-free’ is now available to pre-order – learn my own personal approach to budget cooking and baking and start reducing the costs of your weekly shop ASAP! It’ll be released on the 13th of Feb 2025 in the UK and you can order a copy here right now for a tenner. You won’t pay a penny until it’s dispatched next year in February and it’s currently half price at £10 for a limited time!
Any gluten-free person who’s ever been bewildered at the total of their supermarket receipt will understand exactly why I had to write this book. After all, a full weekly food shop (suitable for a gluten free diet) can be as much as 35% more expensive than an equivalent gluten-containing shop…
And the above is exactly why I passionately felt this cookbook needed to exist; being gluten-free isn’t a choice! And we should still be able to cook and baking using essential gluten-free products without obliterating our bank balances. Agreed?! Here’s everything you need to know about it and also a little waffle from me about exactly what it is, more on why I actually wrote it and all the important stuff…
Where to pre-order ‘Budget Gluten-free’:
Fortunately, you’ve got the usual selection of online retailers to choose from, which I’ll list below. Of course, don’t forget to check independent book shops IRL too. It’s currently half price (£10) on Amazon and Waterstones right now:
What is ‘Budget Gluten-free’?
- It contains 100+ ultra budget-friendly oven, hob, air fryer and slow cooker recipes that you’d never know were incredibly affordable or gluten-free. That includes everything from big batch slow cooking to savvy street food and fast food, to bargain bakes and desserts as well as low-cost comfort food, lunch/on-the-go and tons more. See the third bullet point below if you don’t own one or more of these appliances! This is my BIGGEST and BEST VALUE book to date.
- This book is packed with my own personal savvy shopping tips and real life gluten-free-know-how that’ll save you money on your weekly shops 👌🏻 When the price of essential gluten-free products just seems to be going up and up year after year, I had absolutely no choice in forging my own unique, budget-friendly approach to gluten-free cooking and baking. By doing so, not only was I better able to offset the higher costs of using essential gluten-free products (which prevented me from having to abstain from using them entirely) but it also crucially brought how much I was spending back down to Earth. And it can work for you too!
- The recipes in this book make super regular use of low-cost-running appliances like air fryers, slow cookers and the microwave – but also gives alternate oven and hob options too 🔥 Never fear if you don’t own or don’t want to use these smaller appliances because almost all the recipes feature alternative methods too!
- ‘Budget Gluten-free’ will show you how to harness the power of batch cooking and your freezer (which is always on and using power, might I add!) to save you money. This is the first book I’ve written that gives advice for each recipe on how to freeze the finished dish or bake, as well as how to get it defrosted and back onto plates ASAP. This info will not only come in handy in reducing food and money that goes to waste, but also when using freezing leftovers to create your own frozen ready meals for the future. By batch cooking a larger quantity occasionally and freezing these purpose-made portions for later, you’ll have more days where you don’t have to spend energy (both your own and the kind on your electricity/gas bill!) cooking. Plus, you’ll be able to better take advantage of the cost savings that come with buying cooking ingredients in bulk!
- This book is around 90% savoury recipes, 10% desserts and bakes. This book focusses on creating cost-conscious meals that directly tackle some of the most expensive aspects of being gluten-free – namely dinner, lunch and on-the-go situations. Of course, there will be a bargain baking and desserts chapter too!
- YES! Just like my other books, ‘Budget Gluten-free’ contains easy swaps you can make to adapt the recipes to be dairy-free, low FODMAP, lactose-free and veggie/vegan where possible. ✅ It’s super important that as many of you can enjoy my recipes as possible, so I worked really hard on testing all of these swaps!
- It’ll be released on the 13th of February 2025 in the UK 🗓 and in the rest of Europe. It’ll be released on the 11th of February in Australia and New Zealand and on the 15th of April in North America.
- MORE INFO INCLUDING COVER REVEAL, RECIPE PHOTOS AND CHAPTER OUTLINES COMING SOON 🤫
Here’s all the frequently asked questions I usually get about my books, but the Facebook group is another good way to get an answer if you still have any questions!
Why should I bother pre-ordering?
First of all, not just to help me out (though that is greatly appreciated!) – here’s all you need to know about pre-ordering:
- You’ll GUARANTEE yourself a copy on release day. We finally have this as a guarantee on Amazon after many years of pestering!
- You won’t pay a single penny until it’s dispatched in February… NOTHING!!
- It’s currently HALF PRICE (£10!!) for a limited time. This is the first of all my books to be half price before I’ve even officially announced it!
- We need to keep raising awareness of the impact that the cost of a gluten-free diet is having on the coeliac and gluten-free community. The government, the food industry, key decision makers and the media all need to listen and do their bit. Every pre-order of ‘Budget Gluten-free’ will help show how important it is that gluten-free and coeliac awareness is taken more seriously and SPECIFICALLY that more needs to be done to make following a gluten-free diet more affordable!
- You also have a chance to receive some goodies from me in the pre-order competitions over on Facebook, Instagram and via the mailing list. So keep a screenshot of your preorder confirmation handy! Competition ends 17th of November 2024.
Will there be signed copies?
There’s none at the moment but February 2025 is still a long way away! In case you didn’t know, it’s up to book sellers to request signed copies and sell them online and if that happens, I’ll always say yes! If I sign any books (and I happen to also know where they’re going) I’ll be sure to let you know. Otherwise I will definitely be signing them when I’m out and about on book tours in the future!
Will it be available to purchase in supermarkets?
As it’s very hard to get books stocked in supermarkets due to limited space, I would never say yes or no at this early stage. Keep an eye on my social media and I will let you know closer to the release date (usually after it’s out with supermarkets). If you want a guaranteed copy, it’s best to pre-order.
Are these brand new recipes?
Yes! Around 95% of these recipes are exclusive to this book. As with all my books, the one thing I want everyone to feel is that they got amazing value for their money.
And if a huge percentage of the recipes were already available on my blog for free or previously published in other books, I just couldn’t honestly say that! So yep, almost every single recipe is totally unique to this book, with the other 5% being blog reader favourites as well as my most requested recipes to be published.
Why on Earth do I need this?
Here’s my hard sell, which is great if you couldn’t be bothered to read everything else! First of all, this is my BIGGEST and BEST VALUE book to date… but also:
- It’ll save you money, especially if you think saving money on a gluten-free diet is next to impossible. If I’m honest, the idea of charging people for a book in order to help them save money seemed like a bit of an oxymoron to me! That’s why I knew this book had to result in real savings that would not only earn you the cost of the book back quickly, but also instil you with all my budget cooking and baking know-how so you could continue to save money for years and decades to come. So that’s exactly what I wrote!
- This book takes budget cooking and baking extremely seriously. This isn’t one a book full of recipes that can be considered to be basically or kind of ‘budget-friendly’; or those which fall into the category of being labelled ‘budget-friendly’ and you never really understand why. I begin the book by fully explaining my own personal definition of the term ‘budget-friendly’ so you know exactly why every single recipe deserves that title and belongs in this book and no where else. The entire point of this recipe book is to lower the total cost of ALL ingredients used in each recipe in order to offset the higher costs that come with using essential gluten-free products – yet of course, with zero compromise and taste, texture or visual appeal.
- This book is a spiritual successor to my sixth book ‘Gluten-free Air Fryer’, though an air fryer is almost always optional in ‘Budget Gluten-free’. So if you loved ‘Gluten-free Air Fryer’, you’ll definitely love this one too! Yes, I really meant it when I said in that book that ‘I’m one of those air fryer people’ and that meant I couldn’t just abandon adding temperatures and timings for it in my next book. I really love air fryers and believe they can achieve an amazing results, faster and often healthier; and crucially in ‘Budget Gluten-free’, it’s low running costs become especially integral in driving down costs. But since ‘Budget Gluten-free’ isn’t a literal air fryer recipe book sequel, any recipe with an air fryer method also will have an oven alternative temperature/timing where it makes sense – yes, even in the air fryer chapter of the book!
- It features my first ever slow cooking chapter! Not only is the slow cooker an incredibly low-cost appliance to run, but it’s a great way to whip up a large batch of food that you can partially freeze and reheat for a future dinner. That means less time cooking in the future and less power used cooking and washing up too! Of course, just like with the air fryer chapter in the book featuring oven timings too, the slow cooking chapter will also feature alternative methods to make the exact same dish on the hob in a big lidded pot.
- It’s packed with recipes that you can instantly integrate into your normal cooking routines, but also politely teaches and suggests the consideration of more convenient, time and cost saving routines too. In case that sounded incredibly cryptic, it’ll make a lot more sense when you check out the slow cooking chapter in the book. I also just alluded to it in the previous bullet point!
- If you’re dairy-free, lactose-intolerant, low FODMAP, vegetarian or vegan, there’s a TON of tips on how to adapt my recipes to be friendly to all of the above, whenever possible. I always want my recipes to be as accessible to as many people as possible!
That wasn’t so bad was it? I’m sure you want to buy 10 copies now!
Does the book contain costs per person?
No and I was very adamant that it wouldn’t. Let me explain: from when I first started writing this book until when it went off to print, the price of so many different products changed. If I was to include this information, it would never be accurate and the longer time marches on, the less accurate it would be. And information like costs per person, per portion are supposed to be helpful, not misleading!
But rest assured, this book is crammed with what would otherwise fall under the umbrella of ‘£1 meals’ (i.e £1 per person, per portion) and takes the job of driving down the costs per person very seriously!
Does the book have dairy-free recipes in it?
Yes – tons actually! Throughout the book, I’ve clearly labelled whenever a recipe is dairy-free. And whenever a recipe isn’t dairy-free to start with, I’ve listed exactly how to make it dairy-free (if possible) for each recipe.
This took *a lot* of work and recipe testing, but I’m so pleased that I invested the time to do so!
Does the book have vegan/veggie recipes in it?
Yes! I’ve clearly labelled whenever a recipe is suitable for vegetarians or vegans. If it isn’t veggie/vegan to start with, I’ve also included instructions on how to adapt it, if possible – which most of them are!
Even with the few recipes which don’t provide a veggie or vegan option, some can still usually easily be adapted to be so using the right gluten-free and vegan alternative – so please don’t think it’s impossible!
Does the book have low FODMAP recipes in it? What about lactose-free?
Yes! Most of the recipes are suitable for the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet, or if not, will mention how you can easily adapt them to be. Just look for the key at the top of the page. A huge majority of recipes in the book are easily adaptable to the low FODMAP diet, believe it or not!
Whilst some recipes in this book do call for onion or garlic, as I can’t tolerate it myself, you’ll find that those recipes always have an easy substitute.
As lactose-free is a big part of the low FODMAP diet, you’ll also find that lots of the recipes indicate whether they’re lactose-free or low lactose, or how to adapt the recipes to be suitable too.
And yet another HUGE thank you to everyone who’s supported me so far!
Needless to say, never in a million years did I think that I would be here telling you all about my *seventh* recipe book. To be honest, it’s hard to be able to express how surreal that is to me when just having one recipe book was a mad, seemingly unachievable dream when I was growing up.
Many of you who are familiar with me will know that my main goal with everything I do is simply to make the lives of gluten-free people easier, more enjoyable and most importantly, more normal! So in a sense, I’m sure you can understand exactly why I chose to write this book and how strongly I felt that a book like this needed to exist.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support as it’s the only thing that allows me to even come close to achieving that goal!
Love,
Becky xxx
