In a recall posted TODAY by the Food Standards Agency (22nd December 2025), Tesco have recalled a product in their free from range as it may contain milk not mentioned on the label.
According to the post on the Food Standards Agency website: “This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.” Considering this is the second free from product in 2 months to be recalled by Tesco, it has left me wondering… what is going on?!

Which products are affected by the product recall?
The specific product affected is:
- Tesco Free From 4 Christmas Chocolate Flavoured Cupcakes 220g
See the photo below to see an image of the affected product and tap it to see the relevant product on Tesco’s website.
Please tell as many people as you can as this could affect a lot of people. This is a free from product that featured in my Tesco gluten-free Christmas products guide and has been on shelves for months.
This is yet another concerning recall in Tesco’s free from range, with their free from gluten-free breadcrumbs being recalled a couple of months ago too. Trust is hugely important within the free from community and when a product clearly marked as ‘Milk Free’ may contain milk, it only serves to dent our confidence in the safety of the range as a whole. Are any other products affected?
Tesco has stated: “No other Tesco products are affected by this recall. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.” That’s all the info we’ve been provided with so far.
What is a product recall?
According to the Food Standards Agency: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
In this case, the product in question is being recalled by Tesco.
How do I know if the 4 Christmas Chocolate Flavoured Cupcakes I bought are affected?
Any pack of Tesco Free From Christmas Chocolate Flavoured Cupcakes with dates up to and including Best Before End 17th January 2026 are NOT safe to eat.
As you can see in the black and white photo above, the date on the product I’m holding states ’03 Jan 26′ so that product would have been needed to be recalled.
See Tesco’s full recall notice below:

I thought this product was milk free? What happened?
As usual, an actual explanation for this error isn’t often given and that’s exactly the case here. Given that this is a seasonal Christmas product that only popped up recently, we can only assume that circumstances surrounding its introduction and manufacturing processes led to the recall happening.
Of course, a product labelled as ‘milk free’ should be safe for milk allergy sufferers and shouldn’t contain even a trace of milk.

What should I do next if I have this product in my cupboard at home?
According to the Food Standards Agency: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not consume them.”
“Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. For more information contact Tesco Customer Services at tesco.com/help/contact”
What are Tesco doing to address this issue?
As explained on the Food Standards Agency website, Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. You may have seen them resharing this info online already.
The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. This recall notice is shown above in this post.
I’ve already opened it – can I still return it?
If you still have the packaging with the affected date, I would recommend taking it and as much of the product as possible to Tesco customer services.
Where can I read the official Food Standards Agency post about this specific recall?
You can find it by tapping here. You can find Tesco’s own recall notice by tapping here.
Please let as many people know about this as possible!
As it’s often difficult to reach everyone who may have purchased these affected products, please share this news with as many people as possible.
What are your thoughts? Are you affected by this recall? Please let me know! I will keep this post updated as/when/if any further information arises.
Thanks for reading,
