In a recall posted today by the Food Standards Agency (13th October 2023), Aldi have recalled a popular ‘accidentally gluten-free’ product as it now contains gluten not mentioned on the label.
According to the post on the Food Standards Agency website, this product contains gluten which is not mentioned on the label. This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease or an intolerance to gluten. Keep scrolling for all of the vital info.
Which products are affected by the product recall?
The specific product affected is:
- Aldi Teriyaki Beef Stir Fry Meat Kit
According to the Food Standards Agency it now contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label, making it a possible health risk for anyone with Coeliac disease or an intolerance to gluten.

What is a product recall?
According to the Food Standards Agency: “if there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).”
In this case, the product in question is being recalled by Aldi.
How do I know if my packet of Aldi’s Teriyaki Beef Stir Fry Meal Kit is affected?
Any pack of Aldi’s Teriyaki Beef Stir Fry Meal Kit with a ‘Use By’ date up to 22/10/2023 is NOT safe to eat.

I thought this product was gluten-free? What happened?
This has likely happened when Aldi changed supplier for the product, but neglected to consider the change of ingredients that came along with a change in supplier.
As a result, the packaging on the outside was left out-dated when the internal product changed.
What about this product is no longer gluten-free?
This product consisted of beef strips and stir fry vegetables and a separate sachet of teriyaki sauce that was included inside the packaging.
It seems that the sachet is the part that has prompted the recall as some people have reported that the sachet now has information printed on it that states ‘Allergen: Soy & Wheat’ despite the outer packaging of the product not reflecting this.
What should I do next if I have this product in my fridge at home?
If you have bought the above product and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it.
Instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund.

What are Aldi doing to address this issue?
As explained on the Food Standards Agency website, Aldi is recalling the product and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
Aldi has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

I’ve already opened it – can I still return it?
If you still have the packaging with the affected date, I would recommend taking it and as much of the product as possible to Aldi customer services.
