Gluten-free Paphos, Cyprus Guide – it’s here! Whilst I may be missing the sun (and food) as I write this, the least I can do is share everywhere I ate/stayed that was Coeliac-friendly, wheat-free and cross-contamination clued up. So here it is!
Gluten-free Paphos, Cyprus guide – written in 2025 but will be kept well up to date if anything changes. On my week-long trip, not only did I find sun, sea and serenity, but of course, tons of delicious Greek-Cypriot gluten-free meals, treats and essential supermarket products to boot. So here’s all you need to know!

Gluten-free Paphos, Cyprus Guide: Menu
Just a quick reminder: I don’t live in Paphos so I am unable to check on every restaurant if say somewhere closes or changes it’s opening times (I know some restaurants shut for a couple of months over the winter) so please do check ✅
Equally things can change so please do keep that in mind and make sure you ask all the questions you personally need to. For example if / when I visit Paphos again I would still contact all these places and ask questions about how they prepare food like I did this time.
Now that’s out of the way, you can either scroll down the post to read everything or use the menu below to jump to specific sections 👇🏻
Restaurants & Cafes
Pingouino Cafe and Lounge Bar – Poseidonos Ave, Paphos 8041, Cyprus

An absolute gem in Paphos – it’s really well located near the sea front and is open all day so you can go for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
They have a completely gluten free menu which has breakfast options, salads, burgers, pasta, pork and chicken gyros, fish. They also have gluten free waffles and cakes, as well as gluten free beer and gluten free pittas too. There’s a crazy amount of variety.
Not only are the food options fab but also when you order gluten free they bring out placemats that say ‘gluten free’ on them, cutlery that says ‘gluten free’ on it and even your own condiment selection all labelled gluten free. We love to see it!

The owner was one of the founders of the Cypriot Coeliac Society and also has a daughter with coeliac disease so keeping people safe is top of Pingouino’s agenda alongside delicious gluten free food.
I’d also say it’s a great one for kids as some of the options on the menu are very kid friendly too!
Georges Alain Pâtisserie – Konstantinou Kanari, Paphos 8010, Cyprus

Up in Paphos Old Town you will find Georges Alain Pâtisserie which does a wide selection of gluten free cakes, pastries, desserts, ice cream and even gluten free sandwiches and focaccia.
They have some options that are also dairy free and vegan so if you are looking for dairy free ice cream for instance, they have more than enough to choose from.

They can also make some gluten free larger cakes to order so if you are in Cyprus for a celebration you could contact them and order something a bit special!
If you are not staying in the old town (which I would assume most folk won’t be) you can get to the old town by walking, driving, taxi or even bus.
You can take away your purchases or there’s seating in the beautiful courtyard just outside to enjoy them, which is exactly what we did!
The Windmill – Pafias Afroditis 19, Paphos 8041, Cyprus

The Windmill is a traditional family owned restaurant in Paphos, not far from the seafront. A huge proportion of the menu can be made gluten free or is as standard and they really understand what gluten free means as well as other allergens that you might have to consider too. They have Cypriot meze which is popular in Paphos and lots of traditional dishes too.
It’s a really popular restaurant generally so definitely make sure you book, especially in the busier months as it’s not somewhere you want to miss out on.
If they offer you the creme brulee for dessert, absolutely have it – it’s incredible and they only make a few each day!
The Lodge – Diagorou 1, Paphos 8042, Cyprus

If you like steak this is the place for you! The Lodge is a South African restaurant with a huge variety of steaks as well as some traditional South African dishes.
As soon as you mention gluten free they fully understand and provide you with the information you need as you order. One thing to note is that the fries / chips are cooked in the same fryer so if you have steak you have a choice of mashed potatoes, rice or salad (the mash was great!) – they told this to me before I even had to ask, which made me feel very comfortable and safe!
It’s a slightly more expensive meal than some of the other restaurants I’ve mentioned in Paphos but the food is delicious and the setting is great too. Well worth it in my opinion!
The Fat Fig – Agiou Georgiou, Chlorakas 8220, Cyprus

The Fat Fig is a restaurant you don’t want to miss if you are looking for gluten free, coeliac safe options in Paphos. It’s a little bit further down the road from the harbour, but still only a few minutes in a car (everything in Paphos is very convenient!)
Nearly the entire menu can be made gluten free and that means plenty of souvlaki, moussaka, meze and burgers. Plus a wide selection of gluten free desserts and gluten free options for kids too. If you fancy a gluten free roast dinner whilst in Paphos they even do this on a Sunday.
It has a really relaxed, friendly atmosphere and I would definitely go back in a heartbeat!
Meraki Market Cafe – St George’s Shopping Mall Griva Digeni 57, Shop 10 Chlorakas, 8220, Cyprus
This is a vegan / plant based cafe situated not far from The Fat Fig that also has lots of gluten free options. They are only open during the day, but unlike some other places are open for breakfast and serve gluten free pancakes as well as having gluten free bread and porridge.
They also have gluten free lunch options as well as some desserts / cakes that are gluten free. Do remember that it is a plant based cafe so all gluten free options will also be plant based.
T&Js Fish and Chips – Corner Natalia Court, Iasonos 10-Shop 9, Kato 8042, Cyprus

A perfect location not far from the sea front (and close also to The Lodge) is T&Js which offer coeliac safe gluten free fish and chips! Do make sure you contact them a couple of hours in advance of when you want your gluten free fish & chips as they will completely clean a fryer out and safely prepare the batter. You can sit in or take away from here and enjoy your chippy tea by the water.
Agora Tavern – Talat Paşa 1, Paphos 8015, Cyprus

First thing I will say with this place is book in advance – they get very booked up so don’t expect to just walk in! When you visit you can see why, it’s got a beautiful outside seating area which gets amazing views at sunset.
Food wise, this is a meze only restaurant. You’ll come to realise that meze is really popular in Cyprus as soon as you look at any menus, but not all restaurants cater well for gluten free. However, Agora does! They state that there are only a couple of dishes on the entire menu that are not gluten free but the rest is entirely safe. Of course, do double check this when you go, but this is what the server told me when we were there!
This is another one that’s up in the old town and well worth a trip!
A Modo Mio – Danaes Ave 6, Paphos 8042, Cyprus
An Italian restaurant that really understands gluten free and coeliac safe really well. All gluten free dishes are cooked separately. So if whilst in Paphos you fancy gluten free pizza or pasta this is one of the best places to come to. They also have gluten free starters and desserts so you can safely have a full gluten free italian meal here!
It’s a little bit further up from the likes of Pingouino (about a 20 minute walk along the sea front) but it’s also by lots of the hotels so it could be really close to where you are staying. Either way it’s a great place to go whilst in Paphos for gluten free food.
Martika’s Kitchen – 5 Plateia Militades, Miltiadi Stylianou, Tala 8577, Cyprus
Another restaurant that is a must book (and well in advance, not just the day before!!) if you are hoping to get a table and even more worth booking as it’s a little bit further away. You would need to either be renting a car or get a taxi to Martika’s.
They offer a mix of international dishes and have separate cooking equipment and fryers for gluten free, they really understand the importance of cross contamination with one of the chefs having coeliac disease.
Much of the menu is, or on request, can be made gluten free – as with anywhere I’d let them know when you book so they can be prepared! From crispy calamari, to fish and chips, delicious desserts and options for kids too. There is something for everyone. Also I’m not sure if they do it every week, but they do a gluten free Sunday Roast – definitely get in touch with them for more details!
Hotels
Elysium Hotel – Queen Verenikis Street 6, Paphos 8045, Cyprus

You know those places you visit and you immediately want to go back to again and again? That’s what Elysium was for us. It’s a stunning hotel right on the sea front with great facilities and such a relaxed vibe.
In terms of gluten free and coeliac safe food this exceeded my expectations. Breakfast at Elysium is a huge buffet with absolutely tons of choices. Now you might think, wait, a buffet isn’t safe – well as soon as Elysium knows your dietary requirements there will be someone who comes over each day to help you and offers you a variety of things that they keep totally separate and safe.
Firstly they have gluten free bread and a separate gluten free toaster, they also have gluten free croissants, chocolate croissants, muffins, pancakes, waffles, granola, porridge all that you can ask for. As well as that there is an omelette station and all the other buffet elements which you can ask for or, if you feel comfortable (say in the case of the fruit), can grab yourself. I wish I could have an Elysium breakfast every single day!

When we arrived at the hotel our room had some labeled gluten free desserts in it and most days during the afternoon some delicious gluten free options were brought to the room too! Little touches like this were really special!
We didn’t tend to eat lunch at the hotel but there are plenty of options on the menus if you wish to, as I mentioned before, once the staff know that you have dietary requirements they remember and have it listed against your room number.

In terms of dinner the hotel has a few restaurants all of which have the ability to cater for gluten free safely. The team at the hotel really understands cross contamination so much so that I felt comfortable choosing the buffet restaurant for the times we ate at the hotel. The buffet restaurant has a different theme each night and we chose to eat there for BBQ night and Cypriot night – when we arrived we were walked round the entire buffet and told what we could and couldn’t have. Often the things we couldn’t have, they offered to make us some coeliac safe ones from scratch right there and then which was amazing.

We could have eaten at the hotel every single night but of course wanted to explore more of what Paphos has to offer gluten free wise and also as is so often the case, hotel restaurants can be a little more expensive so we balanced it out!
Other hotels I have been recommended but haven’t visited myself:
- Kefalos Beach Village
- Aliathon Resort
- Ivi Mare
- Constantinou Bros Hotels
- Olympic Lagoon Resort
- Atlantica Aphrodite Hills Hotel
- Kefalos Damon
- Alexander The Great Beach Hotel
- Atlantica Golden Beach
Supermarkets

If you find a decent sized supermarket in Paphos you should have no problem finding gluten free products. I actually visited a few to check out the options and so I knew it wasn’t a one off. Some supermarkets had a designated free from aisle and others had gluten free products dotted around (so if you are looking for gluten free pasta, there is a large selection in the regular pasta aisle… same for bread, biscuits etc)
On the whole smaller corner shops didn’t have gluten free products but they had limited food generally I found and were more gift and drink focussed.

Also separately from gluten free I also looked out for lactose free and dairy free in the supermarkets and was pleasantly surprised. Lactose free milk and yoghurt was very common and in all the large supermarkets there was also dairy free milks, yoghurts and cheeses.

Alphamega
- Apostolou Pavlou Ave 52, Paphos 8046, Cyprus – near Kings Avenue Mall
- Dimokratias Ave. 87, Paphos 8028, Cyprus – bit further out
Probably the best supermarket to go to if you are looking for gluten free products. They have everything, from bread to pasta, cakes to flour – I would go as far as saying it’s like being in a UK supermarket (but better – as I always like a supermarket on holiday!!)
If you go on their website and have a search you will get an idea what I mean about them having everything!
Sklavenitis / ΣΚΛΑΒΕΝΙΤΗΣ
- Tombs of the Kings Ave 2, Paphos 8046, Cyprus – in Kings Avenue Mall
- QC47+J8W, 4, Lidas Street, Kato Paphos, Lidas 4, Paphos 8041, Cyprus – near the harbour

Another good supermarket for gluten free options. Not as much as Alphamega and much of the gluten free products are mixed in with the regular food but that isn’t a problem if you know what you are looking for. Like I said above, gluten free pasta is with the regular pasta etc.
Philippos Supermarket
- Agiou Georgiou 12, Peyia 8560, Cyprus

Closer to Coral Bay this supermarket has a gluten free section which includes cereal, pasta, flour, bread, wraps, biscuits, crackers, even gluten free soy sauce! If you are up that way it’s definitely worth popping in if you need some gluten free products.
Marks & Spencer
- Themis Court, Nikodimou Mylona 1-3, Paphos 8046, Cyprus
Yes in the Old Town there is an M&S that stocks lots of very recognisable gluten free products so if you are up that way it might be worth popping in!
Paphos Airport
The airport is fairly small and we didn’t find anything substantial to eat that looked to be gluten free and safe. They sell some crisps that are safe, fruit of course and sometimes some salads but not all of them are safe either. Personally I’d bring food with you to the airport either from your hotel or from the supermarket. Hopefully in time this may change but this was my observation at the time of writing.
Helpful Info & Sources
Gluten Free Paphos – a facebook group run by Stephen who lives in Paphos. It’s a great resource and something I’d highly recommend joining if you are thinking about visiting Paphos. When Stephen saw I might be visiting Paphos he messaged me straight away and was always happy to provide suggestions. The group is filled with a variety of personal reviews from both those on holiday and those who live locally.
Becky Excell – Gluten free Recipes, Products + Support – my own facebook group! What started out very small has grown into a fab positive place filled with gluten free and coeliac safe information not just on recipes and products, but also on holiday destinations in the UK and abroad. From hotels to restaurants the reviews tend to be extensive and really personal.
Handy Travel Info
Completely non-gluten-free related, but this info we just sort of came across through being in Paphos so thought I might as well share it before we forgot!
Hire/Rental Car
We got around entirely through a rental car which we pre-booked through Avis and picked up at the airport. We chose Avis because their desk is in the arrivals terminal at the airport (saving time having to go a little way outside the airport) as not all rental car services do have one. We also downloaded the Avis Car Hire app which allowed us to keep track of the booking.

This allowed us to get from Paphos airport to Elysium hotel (a 20-30 minute drive) where we could park the car for free at the hotel. It’s also how we went a little further to Coral Bay and zipped backwards and forward to the harbour in the evening for dinner – in both instances parking at free municipal car parks that are easy to find on Google maps.
When we drove to the Old Town area to visit Georges Alain Patisserie, we we able to park in an open public car park and pay using the PafosNow app.

Of course, one of the most important aspects that influenced our decision to drive a rental car was that they drive on the left-hand side of the road! Given that Mark has only ever driven outside of the UK once before this on the opposite side of the road, driving around was incredibly easy here and in early October, roads were pretty quiet.
In short, we can both highly recommend getting a rental car if that’s something you were thinking about already as it made our trip so care-free and easy. I don’t think we ever drove longer than 10 minutes to any one place apart from the initial and final trip to and from the airport!
General Basic Stuff
Of course, it’s Euros for currency, but I just wanted to highlight that 99% of the time we didn’t need cash and just used card for everything. The only exception to this was when we bought something at a small market stall at the hotel once! You’ll have to look into what’s better conversation rate wise and it’ll also depend on what your card’s rate is to determine whether cash or card works out better, but it was nice to not have to worry about having cash on me all the time. Also, whenever we paid by card, I was advised to always choose to pay in local currency (euros) not GBP!

Oh and don’t forget your travel insurance!
Language
We found that everyone in Cyprus spoke really good English which always helps when trying to explain dietary requirements. Equally all the places we went had a good understanding not just of gluten free on a basic level but they thoroughly understood cross contamination when asked (and sometimes they were the ones to bring it up before I even could!).
I would say as result of my experience I didn’t need a translation card but if you do feel more comfortable with one, you can get one here: https://www.celiactravel.com/cards/greek/

Check yourself too
Whilst I have thoroughly researched the places listed and spoken to staff myself – please do not just assume you can eat at any of these places or anywhere in Paphos without asking questions first. I always contact restaurants ahead (even if it is just a few hours beforehand!) to check that they cater for me. If I am booking a table I will tell them of my dietary requirements when booking.
When sitting down at a restaurant I will again mention my dietary requirements so they know before I even come to order. I will also ask further questions for example in terms of preparation and if separate fryers are used for gluten free so that I can be confident in my decision to trust the restaurant.
Being clear with staff helps them out but most importantly keeps you and others safe. If you aren’t sure that they heard you, just double check. They will appreciate it!

Please do feel free to message me with any extra insights you may have about gluten-free in Paphos, Cyprus. If you have found any new and exciting restaurants or hotels in the area that offer safe gluten free options – let me know as I can do my own research then too!
Thanks for reading,
