If you’re coeliac, gluten intolerant or simply following a gluten free diet, then we’ve got 13 shocking gluten free facts that highlight the home truths of having dietary requirements.
Have you ever felt excluded from social situations because of your dietary requirements? Perhaps you’ve turned up at an event where food was available, but went hungry because you weren’t catered for? Have you ever been made to feel like a problem because of your dietary requirements? It turns out that you’re not alone. These gluten free facts are taken from a study conducted by Genius foods in 2015 which focused on the exclusion that people with dietary requirements regularly faced when dining out.
So, what did you think? Pretty shocking, right? It’s a shame that something the majority of us have no control over could dictate how people treat us and for us to potentially be treated as a ‘problem’ for others. Do you avoid parties, leaving do’s and meals out due to being gluten free or otherwise? Do you purposely avoid going on holiday through fear of being glutened? It’s a sad reality that many of us may not realise, but more often than not, our dietary requirements have a huge hold over our lives.
Which of our gluten free facts shocked you the most? I’m personally a little disappointed that 27% of people expect that guests with dietary requirements should bring their own food to social occasions and that 19% believe that we should foot the bill if our dietary requirements have meant eating at a specific restaurant. It’s sad to say but, if that was the case, then I’d probably end up excluding myself out of that particular social occasion just out of principle!
Have you ever experienced being left out from social occasions because of your dietary requirements? Do you agree with the general consensus of our gluten free facts? We’d love to know! Please leave us a comment below or message us on Twitter or Facebook.
