Oast to Host might have woken me up one Saturday morning but their Gluten Free & Dairy Free Products are so worth it!
A couple of weekends ago after a long draining week at work I decided to have a well deserved lay in on a Saturday morning. However my lay in didn’t last quite as long as I had hoped as we had a knock at the door from the postman and a mysterious delivery arrived!
At first I was completely clueless as to what my delivery might be but I soon realised as I opened the parcel that it was a tasty delivery from gluten and wheat free bakery, Oast to Host!
Oast to Host are a gluten free bakery based in Kent… so a long way away from here… but they managed to get a small delivery sent half way across the country full of gluten and dairy free baked goods for Mark and I to try! Good service or what!
Amongst the delivery we received were some gluten & dairy free chocolate brownies, a gluten & dairy free pastry mix and some gluten & dairy free walnut tarts. I am yet to try the pastry mix as I have been very busy, but will definitely do so very soon.
I tried one of the chocolate brownies a couple of nights ago and have to say I was thoroughly impressed. The brownies looks fairly small in their packaging but more than make up for it in taste and texture.
They are incredibly moist and soft, almost sticky in texture. Throughout the brownie there are chunks of chocolate that give the brownie some extra bite. I have to say that I have become quite a fan of brownies recently… I went off them when they were literally the only gluten free option available in coffee shops… but now I have fallen in love with them once more. Oast to Host’s Belgium Chocolate Brownie in particular I have especially fallen in love with. I am so glad I have another one to enjoy later on this week, I’d highly recommend them, they know how to make a true traditional chocolate brownie to perfection.
Now whilst I enjoyed the chocolate brownie Mark decided to try out the Gluten and Dairy Free Walnut Tart. He has gone back down South for a few days this week and took the tart with him. I’m pleased to announce that he enjoyed it so much he wrote a little bit about it below!
Oast to Host‘s Gluten Free & Dairy Free Walnut Tart – The Review!
It’s not often that a gluten and dairy free treat is worthy of translation into words, yet Oast to Host’s Walnut tart makes defining phrases such as “mmm” and “om nom” a very pleasurable process indeed.
In the form of a humble pastry tart, this luxurious treat has more nuts than a squirrel and is stickier than your average communal bottle of Ketchup. After a short 30 second blitz in the microwave, this walnut tart emerged triumphant and bubbling in syrup-y goodness. Let’s get stuck in!
With a generous host of walnuts, coated in lashings of sticky syrup, this treat is intense. It’s a fabulous twist on a pecan pie, but competes entirely in a world of its own. The pastry was delicate with a delightful crumbly texture that seemed way too good to be gluten and dairy free.
Being at home for the weekend, my parents were intrigued by the smell wafting from the kitchen – as I’m such a great son, I let them sample a few precious bites and here are the results:
Mum: “Smelled amazing when heated! Not overly sweet and the perfect size for an evening treat.”
Dad: “You walnut be disappointed.”
I think that says it all! I hope that more and more restaurants discover the delicious secrets of Oast to Host and hopefully we’ll see their range of stockists expand in time. This certainly won’t be my last walnut tart!
Cheers,
Mark x
