So I have only got into frozen yoghurt over the course of the last year. I think this is probably because where I like in the world hasn’t got a frozen yoghurt place even slightly close by. To get frozen yoghurt its a trip to London on the train or much further afield! But now I’ve started having it, I’m addicted to it! Whenever I am in a city with any frozen yoghurt shop I will always drop by, so be prepared for many reviews on Gluten Free Cuppa Tea of frozen yoghurt joints I visit. I guess I especially love having frozen yoghurt as I have found it to be a great lunchtime food – often the hardest meal of the day for a gluten intolerant person to deal with when out and about.
However the one massive problem with most frozen yoghurt shops we venture to is that they only do dairy based yoghurt. This is of course fine by my stomach, but as you might now have realised, my boyfriend’s stomach has a major tantrum when dairy is put inside it. And granted over the years there have been many occasions where I have just sat in a sandwich shop and watched him eat a gluten filled sarnie and then had to get something elsewhere later, I just hate sitting eating frozen yoghurt infront of him when he can’t have it!
And so to find out about Tutti Frutti was just amazing! Tutti Frutti serve soy frozen yoghurt! We first discovered it on the very last day of our Christmas holiday to Edinburgh. We sat eating it whilst wearing hats and scarves (the only crazy souls ordering it!) so it was a little bit chilly for such a frozen dessert, but it was so so worth it!
When we arrived home from out holiday I checked and realised that Tutti Frutti is actually a massive brand of frozen yoghurt with stores spanning the globe. Though it’s of little use to me to find there is a Tutti Frutti in Pakistan or California, it was very exciting to see that there is a couple of Tutti Frutti’s in London! We have certainly never looked back since making this discovery and go every single time we are in London!
The Tutti Frutti that we tend to go to is just off Covent Garden on Bedford Street in central London; it’s self service and usually has at least 6 or 7 different flavours of yoghurt each time we go. Only the standard soy bean flavour is dairy free usually, but it is delicious, I’ve even chosen that over all the dairy flavours on occasions! The dairy options are massive and range from salted caramel (my favourite), taro (another favourite) and peanut butter to more fruity flavours such and stawberry & banana and watermelon. You will never get bored of the flavour choices, there is something for everybody… and whats more, as soon as you walk in you are asked if you would like to try any samples… you can have as many as you want!
So yeah not only do you self serve yourself your own tub of yoghurt but you can also self serve all your toppings. The selection of toppings in Tutti Frutti is average I would say. I have definitely had a much better selection elsewhere in other frozen yoghurt places but the fact you can get the dairy free option here for Mark makes it still so worth it. Obviously a lot of the toppings are actually gluten based as there is a wide selection of chopped up chocolate bars, biscuits, wafers etc.. but then I actually wouldn’t want any of those toppings anyway, I prefer the fresh fruit, it just seems to work better. So at Tutti Frutti they have a small selection of fresh fruits… strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and kiwi I think, I wouldn’t mind some pineapple or even some banana! They have the small bursting fruity bubbles which I think are what you have in bubble tea as well which I’ve come round to quite liking as well! One thing I wish they did have that a few other frozen yoghurt joints have is honeycomb! It goes really well with the soft yoghurt.. maybe they will in the future. Again, another benefit of Tutti Frutti and its self service is that you can have as many toppings as you like… if you only want one strawberry but 10 blueberries thats completely fine!
You do have to be a little careful however because your yoghurt is based on weight and the price can go up quite quickly without you even realising it! However, when you are having it for your lunch it makes for a mighty cheap lunch! Whats more they often have offers on that you can check out on there facebook page as well as giving 25% off to a variety of different groups… off the top of my head students and NHS staff get that discount, but there are other groups too!
Additionally they have a great seating area at the Bedford Street branch downstairs so that in this chilly 0 degree weather we are still having you have somewhere to sit and enjoy your yoghurt. They never rush you to move on either, its a really relaxing environment.
Oh and I nearly forgot, they also do a variety of flavours of bubble tea and epic fresh juice drinks which are blended infront of you containing the fresh fruit of your choice… not to be missed out on!
So basically, if you are struggling for somewhere to eat at lunch time or just want a really nice afternoon treat Tutti Frutti is a great place to head to if you’re in London, Edinburgh or even in Brighton where a new branch has just opened (or anywhere else around the world where they are based!). I’ve also just realised I’ve gone through this whole post without mentioning the fact that not only does Tutti Frutti cater really well for us folk who have to eat gluten free and for other folk who need to eat dairy free, but it’s also rather healthy! Frozen yoghurt is basically fat free I believe and is really light on the stomach I find, so it doesn’t destroy my delicate IBS stomach by getting me too full! What more could you want from a food! Delicious!
Frozen Yoghurt on all levels to me is 10/10 and Tutti Frutti as a place is a solid 9/10… the selection of flavours is the best around, if they gave me honeycomb and pineapple as toppings too… that might rise to a 9.5!
